Pole Barn Constrution

The Autumn of 2020 we built a pole barn  since we couldn't go anywhere because of good old covid-19 and needed somewhere to store the RV and b0at from the harsh winters here in Upper Michigan.

Finland Calling

The Finnish Ambassador was guest of honor at the 100th anniversary celabration of Finland’s independence at Hanka Museum. She invited us to visit Finland when we were volunteering at the ceremony. Being an immigrant with family roots in Taivalkoski, Finland  we decided to visit.                                                          More Pictures

Immature Eagle in the yard this morning and after eating its catch of the day just started playing like all youngsters do. Took a hundred pictures and here are a few. Keeps coming back and if I believed in reincarnation it would have to be my wife (RIP) checking to see that I was alright.

Been spending my time lately doing volunteer work for the Hanka Homestead Museum manufacturing cedar shingles for the roofs of the outbuildings. Logs to shingles.

Patsy Jean Italiano Raisanen peacefully passed away this morning.

She will forever be in our momories.

Wolves are back. Now there are two. I think maybe they might be after my dog.

Wolf on the ice at the dock this morning. I did not get much of a picture because when I opened the door to get rid of the window glare it took off. At first glance I thought it was our husky and I lost set up time.

A couple of eagles caught a weasel near the bird feeder near sunset and had there meal out on the ice in front. Can't catch fish through the ice so I guess they have to eat somehow.

Nature plays in curious ways.
Lake effect snow every day this year so far.

1/1/2015

New Years day and we got about a foot of new snow last night. Its 19 degrees out and that should make the snow perfect for skiing, sledding, snowmobiling and such. I always wanted to ski down that cut across the lake from me and today would be the perfect day, but I waited for the perfect day too long and I’m sure to brake a hip if I tried it now. Anyway, its nice cozy and warm sitting by the fire having my morning fix of caffeine by the cup. The wind will come up, drift the snow, and then I will go plow our private road and then again maybe not. Happy New Year.

A beautiful day and it looks like the ice is getting thick. Anyone can walk on water.

11/29/2014

Thanksgiving day we were treated to the Portage Canal froze over (wouldn't want to walk on it though).

What a difference a few weeks make in the good old Copper Country. A beautiful morning, ice starting to form on the Portage Canal. Maybe today I will go out and plow, shovel, and scrape. And then maybe not.

Have a beautiful day and a great Thanksgiving.

First storm for the year. About 12 inches so far and now starting to blow so that means drifts across the roads. I don’t think the SUV will make it to the highway so I took out the pickup plow but the snow is so wet got stuck. I kind of figured that, but gave it a try. First snow is hard to plow until the ground freezes and packs. I hope by morning it will plow better. All schools are closed and most everything going on is postponed or cancelled. Normal winter stuff in the good old Copper Country, Hope Pat starts feeling better so we can head for the desert. Winter for a few weeks is fine and I enjoy, but when you live in it its another story.

Colors have Gone with the wind

Oct 13, 2014

We sure had some beautiful colors this year. The leaves had a chance to change before the wind blew them off. We didn't make a color tour this year because we had it all right out our window.

Oct 22, 2014

Salt boat went by today. Unloaded the salt for the winter to keep the roads clear of ice. Cars last longer now that they are mostly plastic. I did not get a picture, this is one from a few years back.

Three tugs went by toward Superior and returned a few days later. I haven't heard what they went out for.
