Big Bend National Park - Back Roads
All the back road pictures are in this section and include River Road (50.6 miles), Glen Spring Road (15.6 miles), Old Ore Road (26.4 miles), and the Maverick cutoff (14 miles). We were unable
to converse Black Gap Road (8.5 miles) because half way in we came upon a washout and couldn’t get the jeep across. Black Gap Road and Old Ore Road were the roughest and definitely 4x4 high
clearance.
The pictures start out at our camp site at the Village, then on to River Road and the Mariscal Mine ruins. Next road trip is to Glen Spring Road and the wax factory site ruins. Following day its
Ore Roads Ernst Tinaja and Roy’s Peak. On the way out we took the Maverick cutoff which has the ruins of a sheepherder that was said to have had over a hundred offspring. The reason being he employed
help from Mexican lads over the years and when these lads applied for U.S. citizenship they listed him as their father. I didn’t take a picture of his ruins as it was hot and dusty and I just wanted
to get out of there. Full tank of gas and plenty of water are the rules here.
